The Malaysian poet, Lim Swee Tin, has been on the literacy scene since the early 1970s. Many of his works have been published in the local media, attracting the attention of Malaysian literacy critics. His works have received various literacy awards – among the most distinguished was the “Hadiah Sastera Perdana Malaysia”, the nations premier literature award. Lim Swee Tin has written continuously over the last few decades and in 2000, Malaysia nominated him to receive the S.E.A. Write Award from the Government of Thailand. As depicted in this collection, contemporary poetry by Lim Swee Tin displays a greater intricacy and delves into greater depths of the soul. The poet never seems to compromise the aesthetic values that he holds to firmly. Reading his poems transports us into a realm where we are reading our own inner self; subtle, refreshing, distant, yet at times directing us towards the multi-faceted aspects of life that we have passed through. Lim is perceptive yet not overly emotional. He is an idealist who walks along the boundaries of realism. Overall, his poetry is absorbing as he writes with feeling that is, however honed by awareness.
